Light by itself is beautiful, but it is even more so when it is transmitted by spectacular and harmonious objects, such as those created by David Pompa and his team, which is faithfully committed to being honest with the materials used and the way they are managed to achieve amazing pieces. The studio was founded in Mexico City in 2013, and since then it has managed to decorate residential, tourist, eatery and office spaces with lamps that are much more than that, we could easily call them art pieces. Always inspired by Mexico, its culture and everything it offers, David Pompa has created elegant and timeless collections over the years, always taking care of quality and aesthetics.
In 2009 David found special interest in Mexican materials; a trip to Oaxaca where he had an approach with “barro negro” was the main inspiration for his first collection launched in 2013. Saman wood, brass, copper, Talavera, Onyx and Recinto are some of the materials used by the designer, who has offices in both Mexico and Austria, his other hometown.
Our favorite lamps are pendants, as they integrate into spaces in a very natural way, while working as focal point pieces at the same time. One of the models that we like the most for decoration in warm places or on the beach is Caleta, which is hand-woven and achieves shapes that turn into fantastic shadows. Another of our favorite models is Cupallo, made of solid copper and handblown glass. Its combination of materials as well as the beauty of its lines make it ideal for both modern and traditional spaces. The fact that it is made from recycled glass gives it a sense of perfect imperfection.
Without a doubt the combination that this team achieves between traditional materials with reinvented shapes, together with new technologies and design concepts, make it one of the most promising creative studios in the country, as well as one of the favorites of design lovers for being luxuriously accessible.
