Basketball fans prepare to head to Mexico City this January. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first game in Mexico, the NBA recently announced two regular-season games will take place at the Mexico City Arena and will be the first time the league hosts two regular-season contests in Mexico in the same season. The consecutive games will take place on January 12 and 14 and will be a showdown with the Phoenix Suns taking on the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs, respectively.

“We’ve been playing NBA games in Mexico for 25 years, and we’re thrilled that for the first time we are bringing two regular-season games to Mexico City, featuring three teams with an exciting mix of veteran talent and emerging stars,” says NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver.

After the NBA Global Games Mexico City 2017, the NBA will have staged 24 games in Mexico since 1992, the most NBA games held in any country outside the United States and Canada. In addition to being one of the top destinations for the NBA outside of the U.S., Mexico has seen some other recent NBA action. In August 2013, NBAtienda.com—the official online store—was launched, and in May 2014, NBA.com/Mexico—the first official NBA destination for fans in Mexico—was launched. This, along with developing programs Liga Telmex NBA, Jr. NBA and NBA3X are all part of the NBA’s dedication to develop basketball at the grassroots level throughout the country.

“Zignia Live is proud to make history and host two NBA regular-season games in the Mexico City Arena next January. By bringing major sporting event to Mexican fans, like with these upcoming NBA games, Zignia Live demonstrated its continued effort and social commitment to the sport,” says Ignacio Saenz, General Manager of Zignia Live, a company known for hosting the best events in the best venues.
