When visiting the Riviera Maya, a must-do is checking out one of the many cenotes in the area. These underground sinkholes are a sight to be seen and now, guests of Grand Velas Riviera Maya have the chance to experience one the ultimate way.
The luxury resort has just debuted its Gourmet Cenote Experience, which includes a visit to Chukum Cenote, one of the destination’s undiscovered cenotes. The journey kicks off with a private tour of the 13-foot cavern of stalagmites and stalactites and a dip in the crystal clear waters. Afterwards, Maître Cuisinier de France Michel Mustiere, the culinary director of Velas Resorts, presents a three-course gourmet lunch, curated based on personal preference. Enjoy items like cheese and charcuterie, duck terrine and handmade truffles, all 60 feet below the surface.
The lunch will be accompanied by a tasting of ancestral drinks like bacanora, sotol, tuxca and pox. Guests will learn the history behind these recipes and how they’re being reinvented in today’s modern world.
The Gourmet Cenote Experience is for up to eight people maximum and costs $7,000, including transportation to the cenotes, taxes and gratuity.
