Exciting news for artisans and visitors to Tulum! The government of Quintana Roo has announced the arrival of the first Artisan Corridor in Tulum, which will provide artisans with a dedicated space for the promotion and sale of their products, and a place where tourists and collectors can discover and shop unique pieces and support local artists in turn.
The project, which has an investment of 400,000 pesos, will benefit 24 local artisans and is the result of a collaboration with the National Fund for the Promotion of Crafts (FONART). Tulum’s Artisan Corridor will include the construction of four workshops in the area, including Tulum, Manuel Antonio Ay, Francisco Uh May and Macario Gomez, which are all tourist destinations or well-known artisanal areas.
Not only will Tulum’s Artisan Corridor provide a space for artisans to showcase their work, but it will also recognize and promote the work of the original Mayan peoples. The project is based on the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Maria Lezama Espinosa, who is dedicated to positioning artisan works in showcases around the world.

The comprehensive intervention project includes training and development, production and services, and the creation of spaces for the exhibition and sale of artisan work, signage for workshops and promotional material.
This project is an excellent opportunity for artisans to have a dedicated space to promote and sell their products and to obtain better income and greater well-being. It will also provide a unique and authentic shopping experience for visitors to Tulum, offering the chance to purchase handmade goods directly from the artisans who created them.
The Artisan Corridor in Tulum is a significant step towards recognizing and supporting the work of artisans, and we can’t wait to see it come to life. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in learning more about Mayan culture and supporting local artisans.
